David Quah
David is one of the founders of the Musical Moments Concert series. Over the years he has performed, arranged as well as produced the concerts. This year, he has decided to concentrate on the production side, and will not be performing tonight.
David started his career as an operatic tenor, his singing has taken him all over the world. He then decided to come back to Hong Kong with his wife Jovita and started teaching at the Academy for Performing Arts since the year 2000. He regularly performs in South East Asia and is very active on the local music scenes. He has performed in many operas and concerts, with repertoire ranging from Baroque music to Contemporary Works, Chinese songs to Broadway musical numbers, as well as a little bit of Jazz. Next February, he will be singing the lead role in "Fences", a new opera composed by John Sharpley, in Singapore.
In addition to singing, David is also very much into music composition and music score arrangements. He has written a series of songs based on Chinese Poems, and performed by his children Ernest and Inez. David had collaborated with Howard McCrary the composition of quite a few memorable songs, One of which, "Hear My Plea", was composed for and performed last June in Qinghai by Jose Carreras and Mindy Quah, and during the concert David and Howard also sung, "Thanks to a River", a song written by them based on the poem from Qinghai's vice-governor and renown poet, Jidi Majia. They are responsible for most of Musical Moments 2009 music arrangements.
Apart from Musical Moments, David is also the founder and producer of Classical Moments, a concert series that brings wonderful classical songs to the Hong Kong audience. Please watch out for Classical Moments Concert at the HK City Hall this December.
