Lifeline Express

Putting Hope in Sight

"Lifeline Express" is a purpose-built eye hospital train, equipped with the latest eye- care medical facilities and technology, to offer free operations for poverty-stricken cataract patients who reside in remote areas of mainland China. The first train started its Mission of Light in July 1997 and the second and third Lifeline Express trains joined this worthwhile project in 1999 and 2002 respectively. With three hospital eye-trains now operating, around 11,000 free operations can be performed every year.

Cataracts normally occur only to the elderly, but in less privileged areas in mainland China, many children have suffered from this disease since birth. Early treatment for these cataract patients will enable them not only to regain their eyesight but also help to relieve them from disability-induced poverty. To young patients, this is particularly important as they will able to lead a healthy and normal life in the future.

To further extend our mission, Lifeline Express planns to establish 10 Microscopic Eye Surgery Training Centres in selected cities in China by mid 2008. The purpose is to enable local eye doctors working in less privileged parts of China to receive proper and updated training to enhance their competency in patient care locally. These centres are linked by video-conferencing facilities to major hospitals in China and Hong Kong to facilitate the efficient sharing of modern and advanced medical knowledge.

"Lifeline Express" is a gift of love and sharing, it deserves all the assistance and support from all walks of life. Your donation will help restore sight, then, hope is returned, the entire family’s future is changed.
